Cicero Jefferson Bates, Sr.

SPARTANBURG, SC - Mr. Cicero Jefferson Bates, Sr., 90, former long-time resident of Griffin, GA, passed away Friday, November 11, 2005 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Bates was born October 30, 1915 in Woolsey, GA, son of the late Fred Talmadge Bates and the late Lula Jewell Connally Bates. He was a member of the Cruselle-Freeman Church for the Deaf in Atlanta, and was a graduate of the Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring, GA. Mr. Bates was a retired machine operator for Dundee Mills.

Survivors include his wife, Florrie Mae Joyner Bates of Spartanburg; daughters and son-in-law, Carol B. Harrison of Spartanburg and Rose and John Shannon of Florissant, MO; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Debbie Bates of Olive Branch, MS; sister, Barbara Fallin of Griffin; brother, Alton Bates of Griffin; grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Dawn Shannon of Charlotte, NC, Billy Harrison of Fayetteville, NC, Eric Shannon of St. Louis, MO, Kim and Hal Fowler of Olive Branch, MS, Mary Beth and Rob Rucci of Taylors, SC, Kevin Bates of Olive Branch, MS, and Melanie and Jimmy Hill of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchildren, Coleman and Riley Rucci, Colten, Caleb, and Christian Fowler, and Sydney and Ellie Mow; brother-in-law, Wesley V. Joyner, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Cicero Jefferson Bates, Sr. was held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2005 in the Warren Haisten Memorial Chapel, 1155 Everee Inn Road, Griffin, GA. Reverend Dwayne Carroll and Reverend Jim Whitworth was officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens.
