
Lillian Ruth Hogan Weldon
Charleston, SC - Lillian Ruth Hogan Weldon of Lenox, MA, and James Island, SC and widow of Albert Raymond Weldon, passed away on June 10, 2008.
Mrs. Weldon, born on October 10, 1936, in New York City, was the daughter of Florence Fulbrook Hogan and William Joseph Hogan. She graduated from Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton, MA, in 1954 and Berkshire Business College in 1956. She was the Assistant Manager of the Gables Inn in Lenox, MA. She then worked for the Independent Living Center in Pittsfield, MA, and the Dept. of Outreach Services in Charleston. She later became a partner in "Monogramming by Margaret and Lil" with Margaret Davis. She was a member of SC Association for the Deaf, Inc., the Lowcountry Chapter for the Deaf, the Eastern SC Register of Interpreter Service, the MA Association for Persons in Support Employment, the MA State Association for the Deaf, the Clarke School Alumni Association, the Western MA Deaf Leadership Group, Deaf Women United, Inc. and the MA Register of Interpreter Services. She was the President of the Western MA Association for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired.
She is survived by three children: Wendy Marie Swartz of Chesapeake, Virginia, William Michael Weldon of Bremerton, Washington and Joseph Anthony Weldon of Noblesville, Indiana, one brother Howell Hedrick of Fair Oaks, California, three grandchildren, Joey Weldon, Jr., David Weldon and Emily Kate Weldon of Noblesville, Indiana, only first cousin Margaret Waitzman of Mt. Pleasant, SC and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Michael Weldon, brother Thomas Hedrick and sister Honore Moore.
She was buried at St. Anne's in Lenox, Massachusetts. Memorials may be made to Clarke School, Round Hill Road, Northampton, MA 01060, Pet Helpers Adoption Center, 1430 Folly Road, James Island, SC 29412 and the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
