Miss Chigges was born May 3, 1914 in Akron, OH, a daughter of Elizabeth Anastasopoulou Chigges and John K. Chigges. In 1943, she made the transition from Ohio to Columbia with her family. Thereafter, she attended Columbia College completing course work in interior design and business. She developed a special creativity for the design and styling of women’s apparel. She had a natural talent for sewing, completing many special items over the years. She also made an enormous impression on family and friends with her beautiful penmanship, a talent which blossomed in her later years.

For “Peppy”, her Orthodox Christian faith, family, and friends were most important in life. She loved life and was proud of her Greek heritage. She was always caring, compassionate, and supportive of her friends and family. She looked forward to special occasions and loved to remember people on their birthdays and special celebrations. People admired her talent for writing special notes and letters. She enjoyed conversation. She would listen to what you had to say and respected your right to say it. She had a wonderful sense of humor. She was wise, and in her later years she amazed all of us with her tremendous capacity to recall facts and information.

She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and St. Katherine’s Philoptochos Society. In recent years she participated in the preparation of Greek pastries for bake sales and festivals of the Church.

Surviving are her sister, Mrs. George J. (Helen) Charles of Bethesda, MD, and 16 nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Vonya Chigges, and brothers, M. Jack Chigges and Gus J. Chigges, all of Columbia.
